Features: "Best of" List

Top 10 Best Costumes from the Star Wars Films

A couple weeks ago, we were surrounded by people dressed up in Star Wars attire at Star Wars Celebration V. Afterward, I picked out the five best costumes on the floor, and that got me thinking, What are the best Star Wars costumes actually in the movies?

We at The Sci-Fi Block have endeavored to answer that question, highlighting our ten favorite character costumes in the Star Wars films (including the Clone Wars movie). The only rules were that anything we picked had to be an outfit or uniform worn by a human character (so Chewbacca, for instance, would be ineligible), and makeup (like that of Darth Maul) doesn't count as part of the costume.

Here is what we came up with:

The 5 Best Costumes at Star Wars Celebration V

If nothing else, one thing you see a LOT of at any convention -- especially Star Wars Celebration -- is costumes. Needless to say, Star Wars Celebration V was no exception. So, instead of spending a week putting up pictures of every cool costume we saw, I've narrowed it down to the five best. These are the ones that went the extra mile and did something particularly funny or unique.

Top 10 Best Sci-fi Moments at Comic Con 2010

San Diego Comic Con 2010 has come and gone, like the summer breeze that makes you feel all cramped and tired but that also brings news for upcoming pop culture movies and sells you awesome collectibles (you know the breeze I'm talking about). This year's convention was a good one. It had its lows (e.g. the Hall H pen-to-eyeball stabbing), but with TRON: Legacy, Captain America, Thor, Green Lantern, and plenty of other cool movies showing up, it also had some great highs. Below are the ten best sci-fi related happenings that went down at the convention this year.

Top 10 Best 'Futurama' Episodes

Ah, Futurama. It's been canceled repeatedly, but like the Encyclopod, it is preparing for a triumphant return to the universe. David X. Cohen and the Futurama gang have given us many great episodes over the years, and in honor of the show's return this Thursday, we're spotlighting the ten best. These episodes are better than good -- they're better!

Top 10 Revisited: Our 'Iron Man 2' Predictions that Came True (and Didn't)

The week before Iron Man 2 came out, Mr. John Dubrawa and I made a list of ten elements we thought the film would need to have in order to be aesthetically successful. Judging by my own assessment of the Iron Man 2 as well as its current 75% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, it's safe to say the movie generally worked. Yeah, it had its quirks, and it wasn't as great as the first one, but it is definitely a movie you should see, and it progresses the story of Tony Stark/Iron Man in an appropriate fashion.

Nine Ways to Improve 'Stargate Universe'

Stargate Universe is a show that I have ambivalent feelings about. So far, it has provided us with only two or three solid episodes, but I somehow can't help but to look forward to it every week. I think that's because its premise -- soldiers and civilians stuck on the other side of the universe in an ancient spaceship that they can't control -- just has so much potential, and its focus on characters demonstrates that the writers are really trying to make something good. They still haven't found their mark, but I believe there's a chance that they can hit it. Since I'm a nice guy, I took it upon myself to think of nine things that are guaranteed* to improve Stargate Universe. You can have this one free, SGU writers.

Top 10 Things 'Iron Man 2' Needs to Have

Iron Man 2's a little closer, and some of the critics have had a chance to see it, but for others all there is to do is sit back and wait. Given the quality of the first Iron Man and the trailers we've seen for the new one, we're all expecting this film to be awesome. However, there's always the chance that things could go wrong. Here are ten things we have determined the film probably needs in order to be great. Think of it as our wish list.

Top 10 Awesome(?) Classic Game-to-film Adaptation Ideas We Could Come Up With

There has recently been a trend of movie studios picking up classic game properties to adapt into film, with the announcement of projects ranging from board games like Monopoly to Atari classics like Missile Command. We here at The Sci-Fi Block have decided to step up to the plate and feed the movie adaptation machine our own mind-blowing ideas for sci-fi films based on classic games. If you're one of the world-renowned directors who reads our stuff daily, just remember: we thought of them first. We offer very reasonable royalty packages.

Top 10 Worst Sci-fi Films to Watch on a First Date

Valentine's Day is a day for those already in love. But what about those who are searching for it? This year, we decided to make a Top 10 list for the sci-fi fans that aren't yet in a serious relationship. If you happen to be going on a first date sometime soon, and you're thinking of pulling out a sci-fi film to cap the evening, here are ten to avoid.

Top 10 Sci-fi Films of the 2000s

The decade of the 2000s has come to an end, so naturally we're going to take a look back at its best science fiction movies. This was a decade marked by remakes and comic book adaptations (and, of course, Avatar), but many of its high points were in fact original works. Below are our favorite flicks, both adapted and new. These are the movies of which we're most proud to say, "We were there for that."
