'Twilight' Author's Sci-fi Novel 'The Host' to be Adapted to Film

Variety reports that Stephenie Meyer, author of the teen-pseudo-goth-vampire-romance Twilight novels, has sold the film rights to her science fiction novel The Host to producers Nick Wechsler, Steve Schwartz, and Paula Mae Schwartz. The producers paid out-of-pocket for the rights to the movie.

Andrew Niccol, writer/director of Gattaca, will be writing and directing The Host (not to be confused with the 2006 South Korean film of the same title). Apparently it was Niccol's work on Gattaca, as well as his writing on The Truman Show that attracted Meyer to him.

The Host is a sci-fi love story about an Earth that has been overtaken by good-willed alien parasites called "Souls." No word on a release date target for the film.
