Interesting 'Predators' Casting Move

We usually don't report on simple casting news, but this one is worth discussing. The Hollywood Reporter has reported that Adrien Brody has been cast as the main character in Robert Rodriguez's Predator franchise reboot, entitled Predators. Brody's character will be the lead member of a group of humans abducted by the Predators and forced to be the targets of game hunts on the Predators' home planet.

This particular casting decision is interesting because the plot sounds designed for tough guy action-hero types, but Brody does not fit that description in the least. The selection of Brody for the lead role, therefore, could either be a really good or a really bad thing. If this means that the story is taking less of an action-oriented approach in favor of a relatively more down-to-earth character-driven plot, this movie could turn out to be surprisingly interesting. If, however, the filmmakers are simply going to try to make Brody into a tough guy, they'll be facing an uphill battle that they very well may lose. Based on everything we currently know about Predators (which, granted, is very little), the movie does seem to be going for straight action, but knowing Rodriguez, we may be in for a surprise.
