'Dollhouse' to get 13 Episodes and Closure

Preston Beckman, Fox's scheduling chief, has told The Hollywood Reporter that Dollhouse will run thirteen episodes this season. This comes after some uncertainty that the series would see much of a second season. After some initially low numbers for the first few episodes of this season of Dollhouse, there was concern that it would be brought to an early end. Fortunately, some improved ratings have given new life to the series ... for now.

Beckman told THR, "We're going to run all the episodes. ... We're not saying we're happy with those numbers, or accept them, but we don't have to overreact." It remains to be seen whether the show will go on for a third season, a prospect that currently seems unlikely given that the show has barely made it this far.

Joss Whedon, the writer and creator of the series, said that he has come prepared in case this season is Dollhouse's last. He has provided a pseudo-ending for the thirteenth episode that has left story possibilities open in case the show is picked up again. He told THR, "We'll definitely have closure, but will leave some doors open."

Whedon surely wrote this thirteenth-episode closure with the fans in mind, but it is also a smart strategic move. Since fans know that there will be some sort of ending, they'll have reason to tune in for the rest of the season. This, of course, will help keep ratings up and raise the potential for more episodes. So, if you're a Dollhouse fan, now's the time to make sure you watch regularly.
