Variety reports that Media Rights Capital has greenlighted the next project from Neill Blomkamp, director of this summer's astounding District 9. Back in August, Blomkamp discussed his desire to film a District 9 sequel, but no details have been released about this movie other than that it will be sci-fi in nature.

Apparently, Blomkamp will be given a good deal of creative freedom. The director told Variety's daily edition, "MRC is letting me make the film I want to make, and that is by far the most important thing here."

So, here comes the test of Blomkamp's directorial skill. Basically every aspect of District 9 shows the director to be immensely talented. Now we'll get to see whether it was all a fluke or whether an amazing new figure is entering the world of science fiction. The time to become giddy is now.
