The new trailer for James Cameron's upcoming Avatar has been released, and it is the best one yet. Whereas the first-released trailer seemed focused on showing off the look of the film, this one provides a clear sense of story. It lays out the plot of a paraplegic controlling an alien avatar through his mind in order to infiltrate the alien civilization. The trailer also shows us the reason for the war: the alien race (called Na'Vi) have settled over a huge source of valuable metal. There are unsurprising indications that the main character will undergo a crisis of conscience as to whether he should stay with the marines or help out the Na'Vi.

This is just Avatar needed to gain more confidence from skeptical moviegoers. Focusing on great visuals in a trailer doesn't work so well when that trailer is being played primarily in 450-pixel-wide boxes on computer monitors. Now we get to see that there is actually a story beneath the polish.
