Metropolis (1927)

Film aficionados rejoice! Variety brings the good news that Fritz Lang's seminal 1927 science fiction film Metropolis will be shown in its complete form on February 10, 2010, by the Berlin Film Festival. The newly restored footage was, until recently, considered lost forever and runs roughly twenty to twenty-five minutes in length (though some speculate that five additional minutes may still be missing). It was found in 2008 in an Argentine museum.

There's no telling for sure how long it will be until we see a DVD or Blu-ray release of the complete film, but it seems to be only a matter of time. Late 2010 or 2011 would seem to be reasonable estimates.
