No Medium Chosen Yet for 'Dr. Horrible' Sequel
As posted on MTV's Splash Page, Nathan Fillion has provided MTV News with a few details about the sequel to Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog. Dr. Horrible, a sci-fi musical comedy web series written by Joss Whedon, won a 2009 Emmy for "Outstanding Special Class -- Short-format Live-action Entertainment Programs." It was shortly thereafter announced that a sequel was already in the works, but few details have since emerged.
Fillion, who plays the role of the egotistic hero Captain Hammer, gave MTV a few tidbits of information, the most interesting being that "[t]he media for the sequel has not yet been decided." Judging by the first series' greatly successful use of the internet as its primary medium, we would expect this one to be at least somehow accessible online. The first Dr. Horrible was released primarily on Hulu and used the iTunes Store and DVD as secondary media. Hulu certainly seems to be the most reasonable medium for the sequel, but if there's anyone we can expect to have a trick up his sleeve it's, Whedon. A feature film would seem unlikely, but at this point there's no telling.
Fillion also told MTV that the series does not have a title yet and that Whedon "has finished writing a song ... or two." There has been no release date announced for this sequel.
