'Green Lantern' to be Filmed in New Orleans and Hit Theaters in 2011.
According to Coventry Telegraph's Geek Files blog, Martin Campbell, director of the upcoming Green Lantern film, has told Empire magazine's print edition that the film will be shot in New Orleans. This comes after a planned shoot in Australia that was abandoned due to a drastic rise in the Australian dollar. As to why New Orleans was chosen, Campbell said, "It's a very interesting city ... with a damn good tax rate."
Campbell also said that, as expected, the movie will be effects-heavy, with "something like 1,300 visual effects shots." It was previously announced that roughly a third of the film will take place in outer space and on the Green Lanterns' home planet, Oa.
The director told the magazine that the film will be released in 2011. We can reasonably anticipate a summer release, though no exact date has been announced. Either way, Green Lantern fans can rest easy knowing that things are now moving along.
