No Silver Surfer Movie for Now

J. Michael Straczynski's in the news again. The writer recently spoke with IGN about his Silver Surfer script, and apparently it's going into the trash. According to Straczynski, his the film was going to pick up where Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer left off.

He said the reason for 2oth Century Fox's reluctance to pick up the film is based on the Fantastic Four sequel's poor performance. Straczynski told IGN, "What happened was when Fantastic Four 2: Rise of the Silver Surfer didn't do as well as they hoped it would do, it caused them to call into question a Silver Surfer movie." He also explains that there may be a Silver Surfer film eventually made, but it will not tie in to the Fantastic Four films.

[Update: Apparently the film is not on hold, as previously believed, and is in active production. See our follow-up article.]

Silver Surfer isNOT Dead

I'm afraid this news is incorrect. The Silver Surfer movie is not dead. It's a rumor created by IGN who have taken Straczynski's comments to Collider out of context.

Thanks Darren, but if you

Thanks Darren, but if you read our article closely, you'll see that we never said it is dead (like some other outlets did). We simply explained that Straczynski said it's not being made for now and that his script isn't being used.
