'Tron Legacy' Duo to Remake Disney's 'The Black Hole'
The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog has reported that director Joseph Kosinski and producer Sean Bailey, the duo heading the upcoming TRON remake, Tron Legacy, are slated to remake another classic Disney sci-fi film: The Black Hole.
The Black Hole is about a space exploration crew's discovery of a long-lost ship near a black hole. The ship contains one original crew member who commands an army of robots, including one particularly memorable robot called Maximilian. As THR points out, The Black Hole was the most expensive movie ever produced by Disney when it was made. It was also the company's first PG-rated film.
According to the article, "The details of the update are being kept secret, though the take does involve grounding the story in the science of a black hole, much more so than in the original. Maximilian also would return."
There is no word on when the film will begin production.

In this case a remake might be good.
“The Black Hole” is one movie where a remake could be better than the original. I’m sure I’m in the minority, but this film was a disappointment for me. I saw it in the theater back in 1979. Although the special effects were spectacular, I was mostly disappointed in the music. For me, a movie can fail in many areas, but if the music works well, I can overlook some flaws. Here, John Barry’s music just doesn’t seem to connect with the action taking place on the screen.
