Pierre Morel's 'Dune' Adaptation May Join the 3-D Club
IGN has some pleasant news for us on the Dune front. Though it's not certain by any stretch, director Pierre Morel is hoping to be able to make his film adaptation of the novel in 3-D. Here is what he told IGN:
I don't know [laughs]. It's so early in the project that we haven't had that conversation yet. I'd love it to be 3D, of course. It's the kind of movie that has the scope to be 3D. Will they do it in 3D? I'd push for that, but I don't know. As a viewer, I've just been watching Avatar with my kids twice in the theater already and had a blast. It's an amazing experience.
Just judging by the scope of the Dune story as well as the fact that it takes place on another planet, this is definitely a film that could gain a lot from 3-D if the 3-D is done right (like Avatar).
Even if the film is not in 3-D, it's nice to hear that it's of such a fully-realized nature that Morel feels that Avatar is a fair visual reference point. Albeit, these words are coming from the creator's mouth and thus are certainly biased, but at least he's got confidence in it.
