And the Terminator Franchise Goes to ... Who??
Deadline Hollywood has reported that the Halcyon Company, failed home of Terminator Salvation, has succesfully sold the rights to the Terminator franchise and cleared its debt. The two studios bidding for the rights were Lionsgate and Sony. The winner is, drumroll ...
Pacifico??
Yep. Pacifico, the debtholder hedge fund that pushed Halcyon into bankruptcy, has paid $29.5 million for the rights to the Terminator franchise. Apparently, Sony and Lionsgate gave up after Pacifico demonstrated that they were willing to pay pretty much anything for the rights. Interestingly enough, Deadline notes, Pacifico is the company that Halcyon "accused in a lawsuit of extortion, bribery, and fraud and demanded $30M in damages." Yes, my friends, the world is strange.
There's really no telling what Pacifico has planned for the franchise. They obviously have some sort of plans for it, and they apparently don't want Halcyon involved. Needless to say, the Terminator is in a very weird place right now.
