Fox vs. Disney in '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' Skirmish: A Tactical Analysis

Last year, director McG was slated to direct Disney's upcoming re-adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (one of my favorite Disney movies ever). A few months ago, though, it was announced, probably for the best, that McG would no longer be directing the film. Regardless of one's overall opinion of McG, he just didn't seem to fit the project. Things have been quiet since then, but now we learn that not only is Disney revving up the movie once again, but 20th Century Fox is, too (the source work is in the public domain, which makes it possible for anyone to make the film).

Sci Fi Wire has reported that Sam Raimi plans to produce an adaptation of Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for Disney. McG was originally attached as director, but as of November that has no longer been the case.
