Something Else 3D is Good for: Making "So Bad It's Good" Movies Even Campier

With 3D's newfound popularity, a lot of the upcoming big-name sci-fi films are going to be shot using that technology. There is also talk about older films, like Star Wars, being converted into 3D. Now, however, MarketSaw has reported that an unlikely movie is stepping into the 3D mix: Plan 9 from Outer Space.

The 3D Standard: Definitely Within 25 Years

You've probably heard about this, but James Cameron recently spoke at a technology forum in Seoul, South Korea, and said that not only will 3-dimensional presentation of media eventually become the norm but that it will become the norm "definitely" within twenty-five years and possibly as early as in a "couple" of years. (The AP article has been posted on practically every major website. SFGate seems to have been one of the first). I sort of expected the internet to erupt when I first read the article -- people tend to get angry over this 3D stuff -- but strangely, I've seen only one opinionated piece on the matter (which came from Cinematical's none-too-pleased Monika Bartyzel). Kinda funny how he used to be so against sequels/prequels, and now he wants to make two for the same franchise. Not that I'm complaining.

Theater Chains Don't Understand the Market, Begin Hiking 3D Ticket Prices

The L.A. Times' Company Town blog has reported that, starting this weekend, many theater chains will begin about 8% more for ticket prices to 3D movies.

3D is Becoming the Default, and That is Good

There was a recent article on Yahoo! News about filmmakers predicting 3D to become the standard for filmmaking in the near future. Among the most notable voices speaking in favor of more widespread use of 3D was Martin Scorsese, who said, “We see in depth, for the most part. We go to the theater -- it's in depth. Why couldn't a film like Precious be in 3D?

More 3-D Sci-fi Flicks: 'Alien' Prequel and 'Green Lantern'

Not that there is any real question that the 3-D train is gaining steam, but today it was announced that Ridley Scott's Alien prequel and the Green Lantern film will both be released in 3-D (reported by CHUD.com and
