Battlestar Galactica

New 'Battlestar Galactica' Spinoff Series, 'Blood & Chrome,' to Bring Back Cylon/Human Conflict

Battlestar Galactica is one of the greatest science fiction shows of all time. Since it also takes place in such a vast world, it makes sense that the studio would want to make spin-off series based on the show. They are currently doing that with Caprica, but that series is vastly different from BSG and has experienced uneven quality. What fans seem to want is another series that engages you both intellectually and emotionally (only the former half of which Caprica seems to have accomplished) and that is more military-oriented, like BSG. We heard a few months ago that Syfy was considering the possibility of another spin-off. Now it looks like we'll be getting that.

Look at This: Fan-made Intro for New 'Battlestar Galactica' Spinoff

Earlier in the month, we learned that Syfy is looking to create a second spinoff of Battlestar Galactica. With that idea, James Doyle, a high school senior, has created an intro sequence to a Battlestar Galactica spinoff of his own creation, entitled The Twelve Colonies.

Syfy Looking at Another 'Battlestar Galactica' Spinoff

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Syfy channel is in the process of ordering some series pilots and is particularly interested in the possibility of another Battlestar Galactica spinoff. The series' first spinoff, Caprica, is currently on the seventh episode of its first season and is experiencing so-so performance.

Casual Consumption: Daddy Issues

How coincidental is it that practically all of my pleasure-viewing this week dealt with characters having various problems with their fathers? Maybe my goal from now on should be to try to find a common thread in the random consumption of the week. That probably won’t last too long, but it's worth a try, right? This week I visited all three of my favorite “Casual Consumption” works: Invincible, Battlestar Galactica, and The Venture Bros. “What about Dune?” you may ask. I’ll explain at the end.

Casual Consumption: Follies and Greatness

This week I went waaaay back in time to the original Avengers comic series, and I also returned to Battlestar Galactica. Also, more Dune.

Look at This: Star Wars vs. Battlestar Galactica, the Ultimate Space Battle

It looks like the naber? tumblr blog was the first to rediscover this video. It is a full 3-D animation of a fairly epic space battle with Star Destroyers and various TIE fighters fighting Battlestars and Vipers from Battlestar Galactica.

Casual Consumption: The Savior Complex and Stuff I Should have Already Read

I'm going to try out a new little blog series here on The Sci-Fi Block. Throughout the week, as you know, we post lots of news stories, movie reviews, TV episode recap/reviews, and occasional feature articles. But obviously I read and watch more sci-fi stuff during the week (mostly on Sundays – my only real day off) than that which I review. Yesterday I was indulging in my typical Sunday sci-fi consumption, and I thought, Why not bring these works up for a little discussion?

Three-- No, Two More Chances to Own 'Battlestar Galactica' Props

As reported by Slice of SciFi, if you want to own a Battlestar Galactica prop, you've got just a few chances left. Props from the epic TV series are being sold off in three more auctions (though one ends today), marking the end of a string of such auctions that began in January.
